About The New York State Smokers Chat Room

The New York State Smokers Chat Room is a resource dedicated to help smokers who have quit and seek additional support and for those who are contemplating quitting and wish to talk to someone before making that commitment.

We hope that you find the Chat Room a beneficial tool to help you become tobacco free. Please contact us with any questions or comments.

Chat Room Etiquette

  • Do treat other people and their opinions with the same respect and consideration that you believe you should receive. You can disagree without being impolite, hurtful or angry. Offensive behavior is grounds for being banned from the chat room.

  • This is not a social chat room but one designed to help those who are quitting smoking. People who come to this chat room are seeking support, advice and information; they are not looking for messages that will make them feel uncomfortable.

  • Don’t transmit any information that could be taken as threatening, offensive or hateful.

  • Do let others take their turn to ask or answer a question in a crowded room.

  • Do learn from others.

  • USING ALL CAPITALS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING!!!

Acceptable Use Policy

Explicit content of a sexual or violent nature will not be tolerated, and personal attacks, harassment, encouraging relapse, and/or 'stalking' and will be dealt with quickly and firmly by New York State Smokers Quitline staff. All complaints will be investigated and users not following our policy will face possible deactivation and/or permanent banning from the New York State Smokers Quitline. In addition, "commercial posts" of any kind are not allowed. Any post in Chat promoting a commercial website/product (whether smoking related or not) by an individual or organization that profits from the sale of that product will immediately result in the (post being removed and) author being banned from the Chat room.
